In its 4th edition, “Tratar o cancro por tu” is travelling to 5 new cities, this time to shed light on some of the most poignant aspects of the disease.
Four years after the launch of the “Tratar o cancro por tu” initiative and with 18 sessions already held, which brought together more than 2,200 participants in ten cities, Ipatimup is back “on the road” – travelling to 5 new cities – to once again talk about cancer with the population.
From 23 January to 3 April, Ipatimup scientists and some of the best local experts will be in Matosinhos, Aveiro, Bragança, Setúbal, Viseu and Ponta Delgada to talk, raise awareness and share knowledge about cancer.
In this new series of face-to-face sessions on cancer literacy, the aim will be to discuss scientific advances and the latest therapies, simplify concepts and raise awareness of the need for early diagnosis and prevention, placing patients at the centre of the discussion. The initiative will once again be attended by some of the best national experts, with special mention to the presence of pathologist and researcher Manuel Sobrinho Simões, director of Ipatimup, and the participation of actress Rita Blanco.
The 2025 edition will feature the following themes: The role of heredity: the importance of family history and genetic studies (in Matosinhos); Life after cancer: care, recovery and quality of life (Aveiro); Cancer and environmental risks: pollution, radiation, sun, passive smoking and occupational contaminants (Bragança); Cancer, diet and nutrition: myths and realities (Setúbal); Precision oncological medicine and innovative medicines: how to access these medicines (Viseu); Prevention and early detection: which cancers can be prevented? What is the impact of screenings? (Ponta Delgada).
The “Tratar o cancro por tu” initiative “has already been to 10 cities (Aveiro, Braga, Coimbra, Covilhã, Évora, Faro, Funchal, Lisbon, Porto and Vila Real) and it is with great satisfaction that Ipatimup responds to several requests and includes five more in the 2025 edition (Matosinhos, Bragança, Setúbal, Viseu and Ponta Delgada)”, highlights José Carlos Machado, vice-president of Ipatimup.
In this edition, the researcher explains, “we will adopt a more transversal approach, focusing on questions and themes that cross different types of cancer. This change reflects the need to approach cancer as a multifaceted phenomenon, promoting a more integrated vision, placing the patient at the center of these dialogues and reinforcing our commitment to communication that is accessible to the whole of society.”
Each of the six sessions will give rise to a podcast on Antena1, which will be available on RTP PLAY, as well as on various streaming platforms.
The events are held in partnership with Antena1, RTP and Roche.
